Fractures - Sprains-Burns

 This article deals with first aid treatment homeopathically in some of the commonly encountered health problems. It is to be used only under the guidance of a homeopath.

Homeopathic treatment for fractures

• For any accident Arnica is the first medicine to prevent/reduce pain and swelling,  If the patient is very frightened, a dose Aconite will take care of the fracture. Immediately after this visit the Orthopedic to set the fractured portion to be properly positioned. 
•  If there is a doubt of fracture get it verified by X Ray or scan. Once the fracture is set, give pill of Symphytum each 3 times a day till the pain is reduced to some extent. If the pain is not reduced considerably from other medicines give a dose or two of  Bryonia. Calceria phos. is to be used in fractures not haling fast

If the periosteum or knee, shin, or elbow are involved Ruta is a good supplement. If X ray is to be taken take Ruta before and after the X ray to reduce the side effects. 
 
Treating scrapes, cuts, bruises and sprains

• First remedy to be given is Arnica internally to take care of the pain, healing, to stop bleeding and prevent re absorption of blood in the soft tissues where blood vessels are broken .   when blood vessels are broken in an accident.
• Next Rhus tox is to be given in sprains with sensation of stiffness on first motion.  remedy to consider for sprains is  gravoelens. It is used to treat  which are characterized by stiffness.
• For sprains with injury to connective tissue, tendons and periosteum, Ruta is a must remedy.

After the above mentioned remedies Bryonia to be given if they did not heal completely a sprain and the injury.


Medication for burns, scalding

• If the scalding or sunburn is minor Calendula tincture or gel can be applied externally give Urtica urens internally if there is stinging. This also helps in reducing scars from previous burns. If the burn or scalding is red hot sunburn give Belladonna.
• Use Cantharis in more serious cases of burns especially with blisters internally and externally.
• For second degree burns take Causticum only internally.

For cleansing in poisoning  
Nux vomica is homeopathic cleanser. Administer once for one-time exposure to toxic substances, like wrong medication or obnoxious fumes, or overindulgence in stimulants.

Where specific traumas are found to be blocking the healing process, specific homeopathic remedies corresponding the substance causing the problem are to be given to clear out the system.

Medicine for medical procedures like operations          

• Take a dose of Aconite before going to any medical procedure, if there is fear in the patient.
• For minimizing the medical procedures side effects take a dose Arnica before and after the procedure.
• In case of nerve rich area is affected in operation give a dose of Hypericum after operation.
• Wherever cuts or slitting/incisions Staphysagria has to be given. Give a single dose after the operation.
• For nausea, confusion and other discomforts due to the anesthetics give Phosphorus internally.

For injections injuries or any wounds of puncture type, give Ledum to take care of shock to the system.
 
For foreign bodies, embedded objects and boils

• Try Silicea for ejecting splinters or any foreign object trapped under the skin. If this did not yield results give Hepar sulph.
• For boils of hot, shiny and red varieties give Belladonna before pus forms.

In children affected with crops of boils, especially on the buttocks Sulphur should take care. 
 
Medication for bites and stings


For bee stings and for allergic reactions with redness, swelling or burning give Apis.
For mosquito, rat and flea bites etc give Ledum.

For wasp stings give Arnica. For more painful bites give Hypericum.

wherever headaches persist in head injuries give Natrum sulphuricum.
